We are a Filipino couple who believe that the earth is our home and that humanity is our family. People often behave as if their home is only where they live, and that their family is composed only of their parents, siblings, sons, and daughters. If this is how people think, then it would make sense to clean our houses, but not our surroundings. Landfills may overflow, but it would be ok, as long as there is no "waste" inside our home. Other people may live in poverty, as long as our own family lives in comfort.
However, we strive to think otherwise. The earth is our home. We want to help make the earth clean by making environmental choices (such as moving towards zero-waste). Also, humanity is our family. We want to move beyond our immediate relatives and work towards a more equitable society (by supporting or tutoring public school children in need, for example).
We are not perfect, and we do not always make the right choices. We also encounter some difficulties in terms of doing what we want to do (for example, our landlord does not support composting). We attempt, through this blog, to document how an ordinary couple like us try to stop making excuses and make simple choices for sustainable living.
